A Milam County committee based / non profit event
The El Camino Real Trade Days was created during a meeting by local elected officials, business leaders and stakeholders in Milam County, Texas. Out of this initial meeting a committee was set comprised of members from different areas of the county.
El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail is a centuries old trail that was added to the National Trails System by the U.S. Congress on October 18, 2004. The legislation authorizing El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail identified approximately 2,580 miles of trail extending from the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass and Laredo, Texas to Natchitoches, Louisiana. This trail, El Camino Real de los Tejas, is the oldest segment of all the National Park Service trails in Texas, and the part of the trail passing through Milam County has been selected by the National Park Service to receive the first National Historic Trail signage depicting the trail in the State of Texas.
With this historic signage placed along the trail in Milam County the “Trade Days” became an apparent unique opportunity that would be a great trade route similar to the old route centuries ago. Our vision, in time, is to extend the “Trade Days” following the El Camino Real de los Tejas trail.
